Lynchburg organizations come together for free community Thanksgiving dinner

Organizers say they have been doing this or 15 years

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Folks in the Hill City got in on spreading holiday cheer this year.

Community organizations across Lynchburg came together to feed locals of all kinds today.

Organizers of "The Free Community Thanksgiving Dinner" say providing the dinner was a way to get neighbors together.

At R.S. Payne Elementary School, people were served mashed potatoes with gravy, stuffing, ham, green beans and a roll on the side. Organizers say the dinner was meant for anyone; the homeless, people who are lonely, or those who wanted to find fellowship and meet new people.

“It just feels good to give back to the community and help, and that you made someone else's day,” said Gloria Smith, president of Hill City Queens Social Club.

Organizers have been putting this event on for 15 years. More than a dozen people were fed today and enjoyed a gospel performance.
