Knights hoping experience pays off in 2017

Cave Spring looks to bounce back from 3-7 campaign

ROANOKE, Va. –    Thursday marked the first day of high school football practice as mandated by the Virginia High School League.  In Roanoke County the Knights of Cave Spring High School were like many of their competitors. The Knights hit the practice fields early for the first of a series of two-a-day workouts in the coming days.

Coach Tim Fulton's team is coming off  3-7 season that saw a young football team really start to compete late in the campaign. They played eventual state champion Blacksburg to the wire and nearly toppled rival Hidden Valley in their annual showdown.  The Knights return darn near everybody. 17 starters return if you include a couple of transfers, and they will need them all if they are to thrive in the tough River Ridge district.

"We played a lot of young kids. We return a lot of people. You know, I think that's a dual-edged sword. You know, you return a lot of people, you expect some things to turn. You know, the schedule we play is not easy. We have to believe that we are going to be competitive, and we're going to fight, and that we're going to hang in every football game." says Cave Spring coach Tim Fulton.

The Knights open with William Byrd on August 25th.
