Spencer Pierce joined the WSLS team in February of 2026 as a sports anchor/reporter.
Spencer graduated from Syracuse University with a Bachelor's degree in Broadcast and Digital Journalism from the Newhouse School in May of 2023.
He turned to broadcasting when he realized he wouldn't be playing college baseball. At Syracuse, he became heavily involved at CitrusTV, the student-run television station. There, his love for broadcasting grew immensely, and the next thing he knew, he ended up 1,000 miles away from home in Duluth, Minnesota.
At WDIO, Spencer covered everything from youth hockey tournaments to Grandma's Marathon and NFL training camp, and his favorite memory was winning an Eric Sevareid Award for a reporter piece.
Spencer loves playing and watching every sport imaginable, but has grown an obsession towards golf within the past few years (love-hate relationship).
Originally from Connecticut, Spencer is excited to learn about the culture of Southwest Virginia, as well as to meet local athletes and tell their stories.
