ATLANTA โ Jane Fonda is celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Georgia-based nonprofit organization she founded to prevent teenage pregnancies. Fonda, 82, founded the Georgia Campaign for Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention in 1995, when she lived in Atlanta and when Georgia had the highest teenage birth rate in the United States. โIf you put a map across the United States that showed pockets of poverty and distress, those would correspond with where our teen pregnancy rates are high,โ Fonda said. Arkansas, Mississippi and Louisiana have the highest teenage birth rates in the United States. Birth rates also remain higher among Native American, Hispanic and Black teenagers.

The pontiff, known for his affinity for social media and technology, said in a videotaped message to a TED conference on climate change that the coronavirus pandemic had put a focus on the social-environmental challenge facing the globe. He called on investors to exclude companies that do not taking into account the environment, as have many faith-based organizations already have. โIn fact, the earth must be taken care of, cultivated and protected; we cannot continue to squeeze it like an orange. "The United States Capitol Police arrested 16 individuals for unlawfully demonstrating on the East Front of the U.S. Capitol," Eva Malecki, spokeswoman for the Capitol police told CNN. While Malecki did not confirm Fonda was among those arrested, Fonda's campaign shared an image of her being taken into custody. In a recent interview with The Los Angeles Times, Fonda said she was inspired to act by environmental activist Greta Thunberg.
