The major branches of Christianity in the U.S. have sharply different traditions, with sermons at historically black Protestant churches lasting — on average - nearly four times as long as Roman Catholic sermons. Catholic sermons were the shortest, at a median of just 14 minutes, compared with 25 minutes for sermons in mainline Protestant congregations and 39 minutes in evangelical Protestant congregations. Historically black Protestant churches had by far the longest sermons, at a median of 54 minutes. NEW YORK, NY – A juvenile suspect has been arrested in the fatal stabbing of an 18-year-old Barnard College freshman, according to a law enforcement official with knowledge of the investigation. The person was not authorized to speak publicly and did so on condition of anonymity Friday. NEW YORK, NY – Sen. Mazie Hirono of Hawaii, the Senate's first Asian American woman and only current immigrant, is working on a memoir. Viking announced Tuesday that the book, currently untitled, will come out in 2021. Hirono, 72, will write about emigrating at age 8 to the United States after her mother fled an abusive marriage in Japan. In a statement issued through Viking, Hirono said the book was a tribute to her mother's spirit. State of NY(CNN) - New Yorkers will decide the state's next official license plate, and there's at least an 80% chance it'll feature Lady Liberty. Andrew Cuomo announced Monday that residents can vote online for the 2020 plate design until Sept. 2. "License plates are a symbol of who we are as a state and New Yorkers should have a voice and a vote in its final design," Cuomo said in a statement. Mario M. Cuomo Bridge, named for the current governor's father. Drivers with plates 10-years-old or older can expect to receive a new plate with the top design starting April 2020, according to the governor's office.

NEW YORK, NY (WSLS 10) The NFL has reached a deal to share Thursday Night Football broadcasts between CBS and NBC, the league announced Monday. Under the new deal, NBC and CBS will air five Thursday night games apiece in 2016-2017. Under the new deal, NFL Network will have an exclusive eight-game package that includes Thursday night games and late-season Saturday night games in addition to continuing to simulcast the CBS and NBC games. "We are continuing to make Thursday Night Football bigger and better," NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement. NBC's Sunday Night Football package will remain the same and is not impacted by today's decision.
