On Wednesday, VDOT opened the right eastbound lane of the road to traffic and, weather permitting, VDOT will have a westbound lane open before the weekend. Since Sunday, crews have removed than 1,000 cubic yards of materials from the slide location, including dirt and debris in the roadway and from the slope along westbound Route 460. AdUPDATE Feb. 22 5:00pm:Shutting down an entire road and forcing drivers to find new routes around the Rich Creek area in Giles County, a mudslide continues to grow on Route 460. “Route 460 is definitely a main artery for people going to West Virginia,” said Dorsey Bradley, who lives in Rich Creek. A year ago, on Route 460 but closer to Glen Lyn, a mudslide blocked the eastbound lane.

Published: May 23, 2020, 8:45 am Updated: May 23, 2020, 10:01 amROANOKE, Va. Police in South Boston have closed U. S. Highway 58 at the intersection of U. S. Highway 501 due to high water. A detour is in place using U. S. Highway 360. An alternate route is 460 west to Princeton to Interstate 77, then Wolf Creek Road to Narrows. In Franklin County, part of Route 116 is closed in the Coopers Cove area because part of the road collapsed. The lane closure is about 1.5 miles east of Windridge Parkway and one mile west of Coopers Cove Road.

A Coast Guard family, originally from Rich Creek and now stationed in Florida, is melting hearts across America with handmade cards from their two-year-old daughter. To brighten up these darker days, Courtney Hainen and her daughter Athena frequently crowd the kitchen table to craft cards to send to others. “So being home more meant that we needed to come up with a few more things to do,” Hainen said. “Because we couldn’t just up and go to the park.”The idea came after Athena celebrated her second birthday. Hainen said anyone can feel free to share the idea on social media.

GILES COUNTY, Va. - Authorities arrested four people on drug charges Tuesday in Giles County. Rich Creek police and deputies with the Giles County Sheriff's Office arrested Dashawn Kasey, Sabrina Thompson, Erika Ratliff and Kyle Williams at the Budget Inn in Rich Creek.
