The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has delivered a recommendation to the Drug Enforcement Administration on marijuana policy, and Senate leaders are hailing it as a first step toward easing federal restrictions on the drug.
Wisconsin school football coach fired after exposing players to COVID-19
WASHINGTON COUNTY, Wis. โ A Wisconsin football coach was fired after officials say he attended a scrimmage game knowing that he may have been positive for COVID-19. Washington County Executive Josh Schoemann said that the coach had been feeling ill with symptoms of COVID-19 and went to his doctorโs office for a test last Thursday. It was during the game that county contact tracers from the health department called the coach. โHe got that phone call as he was walking onto the field or as he was on the field, and made the decision that he needed to be at that scrimmage,โ Schoemann says. When the Kewaskum Gridiron Youth Football league learned of the coachโs diagnosis, they fired him immediately and looked at game film to see who he came into contact with.
16-year-old killed, others hurt in southwest Virginia crash
WASHINGTON COUNTY, Va. โ State police are investigating a two-vehicle crash that left a 16-year-old boy dead and several others hurt. It happened just before 7 p.m. on Saturday in Washington County on Route 19 (Porterfield Hwy) at Route 633 ( Black Hollow Road). There were four people in the Chrysler, including a 16-year-old boy from Abingdon who was taken to Johnston Memorial Hospital, where he later died from his injuries from the crash, according to Virginia State Police. The Chryslerโs driver, a 33-year-old man of Abingdon, wasnโt hurt in the crash, according to Virginia State Police. The Honda CR-Vโs driver, Kayla Byrd, 35, of Abingdon, was taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries, according to Virginia State Police.
Galax, Washington County reporting new coronavirus cases
GALAX, Va. โ On Friday afternoon, we learned about second coronavirus cases in both the city of Galax and Washington County. Both this new case, as well as the first case reported in Galax are associated with international travel, according to health department officials. In the Virginia Department of Health count, only one of these two cases will appear because cases are reported based on the individualโs locality of residence. Washington County second case is associated with out-of-state and out-of-area travel. โWe continue to see new cases of COVID-19 throughout the Commonwealth, and itโs now in our area.
8-year-old boy found in Pulaski County after mother didnโt realize he wasnโt in car on I-81 trip, police say
PULASKI COUNTY, Va. โ A missing 8-year-old boy was found in Pulaski County on Sunday after his mother reported him missing earlier that day. The woman also apparently told police that it wasnโt until she reached Exit 24 in Washington County that she realized her son wasnโt in the car with her. She couldnโt describe where she used the restroom, according to Virginia State Police. Police immediately began an extensive search and notified other law enforcement agencies in the area from Augusta County to Washington County. At 7:05 p.m., the Pulaski County Sheriffโs Office notified state police that the boy had been found and that he was safe.
Storm, wind knock out power to more than 9,000 Virginians
ROANOKE, Va. - Thousands are without power as storms and wind move through the region. As of 3:29 p.m. Friday, Appalachian Power is reporting more than 9,000 customers in Virginia have lost power. The highest concentration of outages is as follows:Nelson County - 1,651Franklin County - 1,115Patrick County - 1,070Carroll County - 686Henry County - 396Roanoke County - 394For the full list of outages, check Appalachian Power's website. Henry Thomas, star of 'E.T.,' arrested on DUI charges

Subsequent investigation by officers resulted in Thomas, 48, being arrested and charged with driving under the influence of intoxicants. Thomas was transported to the Washington County Jail, according to Massey. made Thomas a child star when the film debuted in 1982. He was released from custody Tuesday morning on his own recognizance, according to a Washington County Jail spokesperson.
HIV-positive Maryland man charged with raping, giving meth to boy on Appalachian Trail
- Authorities say an HIV-positive man has been charged with raping a boy on the Appalachian Trail in western Maryland. The Herald-Mail reports that 43-year-old Jason Henry Cochrane, of Millersville, is charged with sex abuse of a minor, second-degree rape and other counts in Washington County. Maryland Natural Resources Police said in court documents that officers were called Saturday morning to the Pine Knob Shelter on the Appalachian Trail near the border with Frederick County. Officers found Cochrane and an adolescent boy in a camping tent north of the shelter that contained condoms and sex toys. Police say DNA tests confirmed sexual contact and that Cochrane gave the boy crystal meth.

Close to 1,700 tornadoes spun up across the United States that year, and nearly 25% of those tornadoes came over a four-day span. This unleashed what we now know as the April, 27 2011 tornado outbreak. If you go anywhere from Alabama to New York, chances are people know about the tornado outbreak of April 27, 2011. More tornadoes were confirmed in last week's severe weather event.
