The Alleghany Highlands Chamber of Commerce is hosting their 3rd annual Jackson River Scenic Trail Half Marathon, 10k, 5k, and 1 mile fun run. It coincides with the Annual Covington Cork and Pork Festival.
The certified course will begin and end at The Intervale Trail Head of The Jackson River Scenic Trial in Covington, Virginia. The course has a smooth crushed gravel surface and is mostly flat with some light hills. The trail follows its namesake river, winding it's way through small communities, cultivated fields, and small patches of woodland. It's mostly shaded by trees with beautiful views of the river and mountains, accompanied with a cool breeze from the river. Unique Awards will be given to the top 3 overall male and female finishers and top three finishers in each age group will receive an award. Age groups are determined by participation.

You still have time to register! Online registration closes Thursday at midnight, but you can still register in person at The Chamber of Commerce all day Friday or just come and register at the race between 7am and 7:30am. Be sure to bring a check or exact cash for your race. Packet Pick-up for advanced registrations will be at The Alleghany Highlands Chamber of Commerce office between 4pm and 6:30pm on Friday, June 24th at 110 Mall Road, Covington Virginia 24426. You can also pick up the packets the morning of the race at the Intervale Trail Head between 7am and 7:45am.
Arrive between 7am and 7:45am. There will be a race briefing, discussion of the race and course details from 7:45am to 8am. The race will begin promptly at 8am. Carpooling is encouraged!
There will be water stations on the way and on the way back. Refreshments will be available at the finish line and winners and awards will be announced at noon in Downtown Covingtion. All runners that complete the race will receive a finishers medal.Age group awards will be given for male and female based on participation. The top 3 overall male and female finishers for each race will receive distinctive awards made by JenFab.
The finisher medal will give you access to the Alleghany Highlands YMCA for the day, so out-of-towners who live too close for a hotel and too far away to run home and shower can get clean after the race to join the festivities at the Cork and Pork Festival.
