ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - Getting exercise is important but eating the right foods can also have a big impact on your heart and preventing heart disease.
"Increasing vegetables and fruits, they provide fiber and a lot of nutrients such as potassium. Whole grains make magnesium so those are some important nutrients for heart health," said Don Mankie, Carilion Clinic Registered Dietitian.

Mankie says getting five to seven vegetables every day is hard for people to do. He suggests adding them at mealtime to make sure you're getting some. Limit processed foods. Mankie says the new mantra is "eating foods without labels". He says you should be having two servings of fish a week and limiting red meat to 18 ounces.
