LYNCHBURG (WSLS 10) - Virginia is only one of two states in the country expected to have a growing veterans population of the next several years.

In preparation for the growing demand in Central Virginia, the Virginia Department of Veterans Services held a ribbon cutting for a new veterans services office on Leesville road. They say the office will provide more services and be able to help more veterans needing care.

John Newby, Commissioner of the Department of Veteran Services says their office is hoping to spread awareness among veterans that these services are available.

"This is huge. We need to be ready for this growing population here in Virginia. I think this right here represents our preparation for meeting the current needs," Newby said. "But we need to be in place for the expanded needs including in the Lynchburg area, because it is expanding."

This is the first of three new offices that will be opened in the commonwealth, making for 25 offices in the state total.
