BOTETOURT COUNTY (WSLS 10) - Botetourt County doesn't head back to class until Tuesday but some students were already in class on Monday. The freshman transition program at Lord Botetourt High School has been going on for the last few years.

Students and parents learn about academics, extracurricular activities, attend a pep rally, eat lunch and tour the school.

About 270 freshman are part of the 2019 class. They usually have an 80 to 90 percent attendance rate for the optional event.

"A little nervous, really excited but just ready to start and let these four years make a big difference and enjoy these four years," said Alexis Anthony, a 9th grader at Lord Botetourt High School.

There is a new principal, Andy Dewease, at the high school this year too.
