RADFORD (WSLS 10) -  Temperatures took a noticeable drop over the last couple weeks, and that could be harmful to pets.

Because the weather changed so quickly, animal shelter workers said many outdoor pets may not have had the chance to grow their winter coats. They recommend bringing them inside for the night.

If they stay outside, it is important to give them straw instead of blankets. You can pick up free straw at the Radford Animal Shelter.

Both the Radford and Montgomery County shelters loan crates for free.

It is also important to check your pet's water bowls several times a day to make sure the water did not freeze.
