Woman charged after Danville school bus crash

DANVILLE (WSLS 10) - Police charged a Danville woman after a school bus crash on Monday morning

Mary Watson, 50, was charged with following too closely after police say she rear-ended the bus.

The bus was hit from behind on Monday morning about 7:30 in Danville in the 1500 block of Richmond Boulevard near the intersection of Joanis Drive.

Police say Watson, driving a 2004 Ford Taurus was driving northbound on Richmond Boulevard and that when she hit the rear of the bus, which was stopped for traffic in the travel lane.

The crash caused $2,500 in damage to the bus and $1,500 in damage to the Tarus. Police say the front end of Ford got lodged under school bus.

A school bus driver and three students, a 13-year-old boy, a 14-year-old girl and a 16-year-old girl, were on board the bus at the time, but were not hurt.

The driver of the Ford was taken to Danville Regional Medical Center to be evaluated.
