ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - A 79-year-old woman says she was attacked by a coyote last Thursday, according to the Roanoke Police Department.

Police saw social media posts about an alleged coyote attack in South Roanoke and an animal warden was assigned to follow-up and made contact on Monday with the woman.

She said that on Thursday afternoon, she was working in her yard in the 2300 block of Avenham Avenue SW when she saw a coyote in her neighbor's yard. The animal jumped the fence and she received a small bite on the tip of her right index finger and the animal ran off. She said she did not seek medical attention until Saturday after talking with friends.

Police ask that if anyone observes what they believe to be a coyote, to call 911.
