Danville baseball complex moving toward becoming a reality

DANVILLE (WSLS 10) - A place to host youth travel baseball games and tournaments in Danville is one step closer to existing.

JEB Realty wants to build three youth baseball fields on about 35 acres of land along its property on S. Main Street at the Virginia-North Carolina line.

The company is also considering eventually building a convenience store and a hotel on the property.

The Danville City Planning Commission has recommended rezoning the property with several conditions to allow the project to move forward.

"All these teams that come in, they play about 35 weekends a year. A lot of people will come to this region, get to experience Danville for the first time, spend some money locally," said JEB Realty CFO Scott Batson.

When asked whether teams would actually come to Danville for games and tournaments, Batson emphasized that there are already teams in Danville, so he believes the fields would be a huge economic success for the city.

Danville City Council will now decide whether or not to approve the planning commission's recommendation.

If approved, JEB Realty plans to set up a non-profit organization to manage the baseball fields.
