Blacksburg town council opposes travel ban

BLACKSBURG (WSLS 10) - Members of the Virginia Tech and Blacksburg communities praised a Virginia judge's injunction against President Donald Trump's travel ban.

The ruling came down Monday.

Students, as well as town leaders, said they hope this is a sign of what will ultimately become of President Trump's executive order.

The injunction against the travel ban means that the Trump administration cannot enforce its ban against any Virginia green card holder, state employee or students who are lawfully in the U.S. until a trial is held.

"It's really helpful for us to actually be settled and not worry about the future," said Iranian Virginia Tech student Yousef Jalali. "At least I can make the decision to go and visit my family, and then come back here and continue my studies."

Blacksburg town council unanimously passed a resolution opposing the travel ban in Tuesday night's consent agenda.
