Danville, Pittsylvania County teachers get last-minute motivation ahead of new school year

Hundreds attended rally Tuesday morning

DANVILLE, Va. – A Southside organization is helping pump Danville and Pittsylvania County teachers and staff up for the new school year.

A pep rally was held at Averett University's North Campus Tuesday morning.

It was organized by Smart Beginnings Danville-Pittsylvania County.

Hundreds of people attended.

The keynote speaker was Kim Hughes, an educational consultant who talked to everyone about how they can maximize the impact they have on students.

She said taking care of yourself and behavior are critical.

"In order to nurture children and support their growth, we have to take care of ourselves and also that we need to see behavior as communication, so that we can meet the needs of children so they can grow and learn," Hughes said.

School begins Wednesday in Danville and Pittsylvania County.
