Martinsville Speedway holding week-long toy drive

Event scheduled for Saturday but was canceled because of snow

MARTINSVILLE, Va. – You have a unique opportunity to drive some laps on a historic racetrack this week.

From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. all week, if you drop off a toy or a $10 donation at Martinsville Speedway, you can drive five laps around the track in your own car.

All of the donations go to Grace Network, which distributes them to churches and schools in Martinsville and Henry County to give to families in need.

On Monday, volunteers sorted toys collected ahead of time.

The toy drive was scheduled to be held Saturday, but was canceled because of the snow.

"That's something that's always done well for us, and to be able to still offer that and still be able to collect the toys and the money to give to Grace Network has worked out really well in the past. Hopefully, it will this week, too," Martinsville Speedway Communication Director Brooks Taylor said.

As of Monday, about 1,800 toys had been collected.
