What's News Today: December 20, 2017

Here's a look at some of the stories we'll be following today

The Post Office in Pulaski will reopen today.  As we've reported, the Postal Service closed the building in July due to safety concerns, following an OSHA investigation into mold.  The office will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday.

Recounts will take place today for House of Delegates races.  One recount started yesterday in Newport News for the 94th district, where David Yancey won the initial county by ten votes over Democrat Shelly Simonds.  Two other recounts are set to begin today.  A republican delegate in Fairfax County held onto his seat after a recount last week.

Appalachian Power will temporarily close the Hardy Ford Public Access area at Smith Mountain Lake today for maintenance.  The work includes underwater dredging in the channel next to the boat ramp and fishing area in an effort to improve boat access regardless of lake level.  A new public restroom will also be built.  The area is expected to reopen in mid-February.
