Police release name of man found shot, dead inside a car in Northwest Roanoke on Sunday

The man was only 28 years old

UPDATE (4:49 p.m. Monday)

ROANOKE, Va. - Roanoke police have released the name of the victim of Sunday’s shooting.

Cleveland Kilgore, 28, of Roanoke, was found shot inside of a car in northwest Roanoke early Sunday morning.

No arrests have been made regarding this incident and it remains an ongoing homicide investigation, according to police.

UPDATE

A man is dead after he was found shot inside of a car in northwest Roanoke early Sunday morning, according to police.

Officers said they were dispatched to the 700 block of Hunt Avenue NW around 3:45 a.m.

When officers arrived, they said they found a man inside of a car with a serious gunshot wound. Authorities said the man was unresponsive.

According to police, the victim was taken to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities said no suspects were found on scene and no arrests have been made.

Authorities are working a scene at an apartment complex in northwest Roanoke.

As of 6:15 a.m., crime scene tape is up surrounding a silver compact car that’s next to an apartment building at Afton Gardens Apartments off Hunt Avenue.

Officers have the driver’s side door of the car propped open and are taking photos of the inside of the car.

10 News reporter Shayne Dwyer is at the scene working to get more information. Officers at the apartment complex have said information must come from the command center, and 10 News has put a request in for more details.
