86-year-old man dies in two-vehicle crash in Alleghany County

ALLEGHANY COUNTY, Va. – Virginia State Police are investigating a tragic two-vehicle crash in Alleghany County that resulted in a fatality.

The incident occurred early Tuesday, Jan. 21, at 12:53 a.m. on Interstate 64, approximately two miles west of Dabney Drive in Alleghany County.

The crash involved a 2025 Volkswagen Jetta, which was traveling east in the westbound lanes, leading to a head-on collision with a Kenworth tractor-trailer that was heading west, according to authorities.

The driver of the Volkswagen, identified as 86-year-old Edmond Thomas Floyd, of Buena Vista, was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and died at the scene, State troopers said.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, who was wearing a seatbelt, sustained injuries and was transported to a local hospital. He received treatment and was subsequently released.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing as authorities work to determine the circumstances that led to the incident.
