ROANOKE – Hundreds of Appalachian Electric Power customers across the region experienced power outages Sunday morning. People living in Allegheny County reported outages, along with Roanoke County, Roanoke City and Grayson County.  With strong wind gusts forecast for the day, more outages could be on the way.

Storm Team 10 meteorologists say strong wind gusts can cause downed limbs and trees to fall on power lines causing outages. In the case of a power outage AEP recommends customers to check all circuit breakers or fuses to help determine if the service outage may be the result of a household problem before calling AEP.  If you have an outage, AEP recommends turning off all lights and appliances including heating and air conditioning systems. This prevents circuits from being overloaded as power is restored. Make sure nothing is left cooking on the stove. For more helpful tips, click here.
