Radford Police Department wins $5,000 grant to support Help Save the Next Girl

RADFORD, Va. – After more than 13,000 votes from across the country, the Radford Police Department took home a $5,000 grant that will help fight crime. 

The national contest from the group Aftermath is called "Why We Serve."

Radford Lt. Andy Wilburn will use the money to support Help Save the Next Girl, which works to educate women and girls on how to avoid becoming a victim. It was formed to honor Morgan Harrington, a Virginia Tech student who was abducted and murdered in 2009. 

Radford was one of four law enforcement agencies left at the end of the race.
