RICHMOND (WSLS 10 SPORTS) - Monday's opening semifinal round was nothing less than exciting. Two local teams on the hardwood for the boys, G.W. Danville and for the girls William Fleming which faced a familiar opponent in Woodrow Wilson a team they eliminated two years ago.

The Colonels took some time getting jitters out of their system early but eventually got things going. Colonels trailed by two at the half. In the second half Malury Bates began to catch fire as she finishes in the paint. She had a double double in this one. Fleming blew an eleven point lead allowing Woodrow Wilson to fight back as Mariah Coker finishes on the AND-1 keeping it close. But the deciding play would be off a missed free throw the Presidents pushed it up the floor but an arid pass would seal the deal. The Colonels are headed to the Championship game Wednesday against Monacan at 10am.

"We showed our character and maturity today so I think it was a plus to see us rally around each other and pulled out a victory though so I'm very very proud of these young ladies," said William Fleming coach Champ Hubbard.

To the boys action, G.W. Danville looked to take down Monacan. Patrick Robinson gets the rock and knocks down the early three pointer. Down the stretch the Eagles fought back and tied it up until Wallace Washington hits the layup off the glass giving Monacan the 65-63 victory.

"I thought the point guard was calling to pick but he didn't he just went all the way and I didn't cut him off in time and he hit the shot." explained Danville's Isaiah Bethel.
