Virginia Tech wrestling's Dresser leaving for Iowa State

BLACKSBURG (WSLS 10 Sports)-  Hokies wrestling coach Kevin Dresser is heading home to Iowa to be the head wrestling coach at Iowa State.

The announcement comes after 11 seasons at the helm of the Hokies. Dresser grew up in Iowa, not far from the Ames area, and was an NCAA champion for the Iowa Hawkeyes.

He has since built three wrestling powerhouses in the state of Virginia.  Grundy High School, Christiansburg High School and now Virginia Tech.

The Hokies are coming off a fourth-place finish in the 2016 NCAA's where Dresser was named the NWCA Coach of the Year for 2016.

Virginia Tech is currently ranked #5 and defeated #6 Nebraska over the weekend in the national duals. They have seven wrestlers currently ranked in the top ten nationally in their weight classes. Dresser will not be coaching the team in the ACC or NCAA tournaments.

Assistant coach Tony Robie will take over as interim coach immediately.
