Ryan Blaney eyes first win at Martinsville Speedway

MARTINSVILLE (WSLS 10 SPORTS) - It's a special year at Martinsville Speedway, celebrating its 70's anniversary and a team very familiar with this track is the Wood Brothers who are hoping for a Ryan Blaney win on Sunday.

"Glen and I were standing on the back stretch here the very first race ever, run here 70 years ago so I think it'd be really cool 70 years later for us to be sitting here after the race and put that Ford Fusion in front," said NASCAR Hall of Fame member Leonard Wood.

Blaney already has three top 10 finishes this season including a second place finish in the Daytona 500. While he hasn't seen much success at Martinsville in his career, he still looks forward to racing at the paperclip.

"Historically this hasn't been my best race track but it means a lot for the Wood Brothers. It's pretty much a home race for them, it is a home race for them and it's my crew chief's favorite racetrack so that's given a lot of extra incentive, and I think we've gotten a lot better here over the years," Blaney explained.

Wood Brothers Racing co-owner Eddie Wood added, "I'm looking forward to it. Like he said, our crew chief loves this place, he's always loved this place and so do we, so Ryan's got two races under his belt here plus some truck races so I think he's underestimating his track time here, I think he'll be just fine."

The Monster Energy Series STP 500 starts at 2pm on Sunday.
