Yes, โSchittโs Creekโ deserved all of those Emmys, and you can finally watch the final season on Netflix Oct. 7
On Sunday eveningโs socially distanced Emmy Awards, the Canadian comedy โSchittโs Creekโ made TV history by sweeping all of the major comedy awards it was nominated for, including all of the acting categories. โSchittโs Creekโ follows the rich Rose family, which is forced to move into a motel in the small town of Schittโs Creek after they lose all of their money. Itโs a fish out of water-type scenario, but as the Rose family begins to assimilate to the quirky town, viewers begin to fall in love with the quirky Roses. In reality, the cast of โSchittโs Creekโ should have been getting recognized by the Emmys for years now, but it was only until 2019 that the show and actors got recognized for their work. But there is no better way to go out on your last season of TV than by making history, right?
Aniston proves award-worthy first responder at Emmy Awards
LOS ANGELES โ Jennifer Aniston missed out on an Emmy but proved herself as an award-worthy first responder when a ceremony stunt got overheated. In a bit during Sunday night's Emmys, host Jimmy Kimmel sprayed an envelope holding a winner's name with disinfectant then, for good measure, dropped it in a wire wastebasket and set it on fire. So far, so good, ceremony executive producer Reginald Hudlin said Monday. A test had been run beforehand, with a booster added to make the fire more visible, and things were going as planned when the scene was shot โ including Aniston to the rescue. She sprayed the wastebasket again, but as she and Kimmel bantered the fire flared again, bigger, and "we're like 'uh oh,'" Hudlin said.
โThe weirdest Emmys youโve ever seenโ: Primetime awards show goes virtual
โItโs going to be the weirdest Emmys youโve ever seen,โ says TV Guide senior critic Matt Roush. I donโt know how you play them off, if they start talking. So I donโt know how itโs going to happen," Roush says. Roush expects multiple wins, including Best Limited Series and Best Actress for Regina King. โThereโs something about the relevance of โWatchmen,โ doing a comic book superhero allegory dealing with racial intolerance and fighting for racial justice,โ he says.

Emmys could use regular home after record-low ratings
Michelle Williams accepts the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie award for "Fosse/Verdon" onstage during the 71st Emmy Awards at Microsoft Theater on Sept. 22, 2019, in Los Angeles. Every other major awards show has one. The noble idea was that everyone would be invested in the Emmys, and thus have a stake in its success. The Television Academy renewed its broadcast deal last year, ensuring that the awards would continue to rotate among the Big Four through 2026. Overall, preliminary ratings for the Emmys swooned by more than 20% compared to last year, the kind of drop that gets people's attention.

Beyonc's 'Homecoming' lost out at the Emmys
"Homecoming" was nominated for six awards in categories for variety specials and non-fiction programming: Best Variety Special (Pre-Recorded), Directing, Writing, Music Direction, Production Design and Costumes. The award for Best Variety Special instead went to "Carpool Karaoke: When Corden Met McCartney." "Springsteen on Broadway" won Best Directing, and Hannah Gadsby's "Nanette" won for Writing. Fans on Twitter were particularly upset that "Carpool Karaoke" triumphed over "Homecoming," which Queen Bey wrote, directed and produced herself.
'Game of Thrones' sets record with Emmy nominations
The cast of "Game of Thrones" now has their eyes on some Emmys -- 32 to be exact. The HBO drama walked away with double-digit Emmy nominations on Tuesday, setting a new record for most nominations earned in a single year by any drama series. This year's nominations included one for best drama and a slew of individual nominations for cast members including Kit Harrington, Emilia Clarke, Lena Headey, Sophie Turner, Maisie Williams and Gwendoline Christie. To date, the fantasy series has won 47 Emmys and been nominated 161 times, including this year's nominations. The "Game of Thrones" series finale aired in May, to mixed reviews.
'Game of Thrones,' 'Veep' ride sentimental wave into Emmys
Frazer Harrison/Getty Images(CNN) - The Emmys usually offer a mix of old and new, but sentimental favorites could be more pronounced at this year's nominations, with "Game of Thrones" defending its crown, "Veep" waging its final campaign and "The Big Bang Theory" having a shot at one last big bang. New series can bring freshness to the awards, even if "The Kominsky Method" brings old pros Michael Douglas and Alan Arkin into play. Wild cards include NBC's quirky "The Good Place," Phoebe Waller-Bridge's Amazon import "Fleabag," and Netflix's "GLOW" and "Russian Doll." In that respect, if the 2019 Emmys feel messier and more disjointed than usual, they might just be a teaser of what's to come. The main Emmy telecast will be held Sept. 22 and televised live by Fox.
