A 75-year-old man was found dead in the water near Beech Drive in Union Hall after being reported missing Wednesday evening, authorities said.

An investigation is underway after a man was found dead at an industrial facility in Rocky Mount, according to county officials.

A fire Friday night damaged the Twin Creeks Distillery warehouse location in Ferrum. No one was injured and no product was lost.

A 42-year-old man is dead after drowning at Smith Mountain Lake Saturday, according to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.

A house on Smith Mountain Lake is a total loss after a fire on Monday afternoon. Franklin County Public Safety said the call came in just before 3 p.m. The house is located on Twin Coves Drive on the Franklin County side of the lake near Bridgewater Plaza. A number of people in the area rushed over to try to help, including Brandon Crawley who works across the cove at Bridgewater Marina. FRANKLIN CO., Va. – On Saturday the Franklin County Communications Center received a 911 call at around 9:00 pm alerting of a subject in the river in distress. The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office and Franklin County Public Safety responded to the incident in the 5000 block of Brooks Mill Road. Rescue searches were conducted, but officials were unable to locate the subject and rescheduled the search to Sunday morning. Franklin County deputies and Public Safety responded. ROCKY MOUNT, Va. – A spokesperson for the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were alerted to a homicide by a 911 call around 3:30 Sunday afternoon. Deputies along with Virginia State Police and Franklin County Public Safety responded to the 10,000 block of Virgil Goode Highway in Rocky Mount. Authorities said the victim, 59-year-old Denny Smith of Rocky Mount, was found dead in his home from a gunshot wound. The suspect, 55-year-old Gregory Kendrick of Rocky Mount, was arrested on scene. Kendrick has been charged with second degree murder and is being held at the Franklin County Jail with no bond.
