The Kirk Family YMCA in Roanoke hosted its first-ever senior pickleball tournament, dubbed the “Golden Paddle Pickleball Invitational,” with over two dozen participants prepared to compete.

The Kirk Family YMCA in Roanoke City is set to host its first-ever senior pickleball tournament, called the “Golden Paddle Pickleball Invitational,” with more than two dozen participants ready to compete.

As school lets out and summer camps ramp up, local dermatologists are weighing in on what sunscreens they recommend—for both kids and adults.

Registration is now open for summer camps at the YMCA of Virginia’s Blue Ridge, offering a range of options for children of all ages. This year’s lineup includes full-day adventures, half-day specialty programs, Kinder Camps for preschoolers, Youth Camps for ages 5 to 12, and hands-on Cooking Camps for budding chefs.

A sport that’s all the rage lately, pickleball, is growing in the Roanoke Valley.

The Miss Virginia competition is back in Roanoke after a four year long hiatus. Bringing with it, Miss America, former Miss Virginia and Virginia Tech graduate, Camile Schrier.

ROANOKE, Va. Budget cuts are causing Roanoke City pools to stay closed the rest of the summer. On Thursday the fundraising group Keep Roanoke city pools open announced it is donating $20,000 dollars to the Kirk Family YMCA to provide 125 people with swim lessons. In addition to helping the city reopen pools next summer, the money will pay for the swim lessons now. Staff at the YMCA will work with the department of health to make sure the swim lessons can be taught safely under any guidelines set by the state. The first session of swim lessons will begin in August.
