Roanoke Vice Mayor selected as co-chair of Bidenโs Virginia LGBTQ+ leadership council
ROANOKE, Va. โ Two Roanoke politicians will play an active role in the Biden-Harris campaignโs effort to reach LGBTQ+ voters in Virginia. The Biden for President Virginia campaign announced on Monday that Roanoke Vice Mayor Joe Cobb and Roanoke City Council candidate Peter Volosin are among the co-chairs selected for the LGBTQ+ Virginians for Biden-Harris leadership council. The goal of the council is to โhighlight Joe Biden and Kamala Harris' plan to advance LGBTQ+ equality, starting by working to pass the Equality Act.โCouncil members will work to โmobilize and engageโ the LGBTQ+ community in Virginia. The campaign said this will include things like hosting weekly meetings, tapping into existing networks and organizing voters for early voting. Two groups of protesters come face-to-face in Marion
MARION, Va. โ A small town in Southwest Virginia became the backdrop for a opposing protests on Friday. As Black Lives Matter and LGBTQ+ protesters were marching Friday evening, counter-protesters with the American Patriots followed them. Police asked the Black Lives Matter protesters to keep walking up one side of the road. It all started back in June, one day after a peaceful Black Lives Matter protest was met with counter-protesters. The family organized that Black Lives Matter protest and the one on Friday.
YouTube sued for allegedly discriminating against LGBTQ community
Alex Joseph, a spokesperson for YouTube, told CNN Business in a statement that all content on its site is subject to the same policies. The lawsuit also claims YouTube denied an LGBTQ news show the right to advertise and thereby increase its viewership on the platform. According to the lawsuit, YouTube apologized to Divino for what they said was a "misunderstanding" and eventually agreed to run the ad. Tensions between YouTube and some members of the LGBTQ community have repeatedly surfaced in recent years. At the time, YouTube told CNN Business: "We're proud of the incredible LGBTQ+ voices on our platform and take concerns like these very seriously."
