Opening of Walmart Neighborhood Market on Orange Ave. brings nearly 100 new jobs

ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - A new Walmart Neighborhood Market is opening on Orange Ave. N.E. on April 8 and will bring nearly 100 new jobs to the area.

The new store is located at

3419 Orange Ave. N.E.

and will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Walmart said the store will provide Roanoke residents with low prices on items like fresh produce and meats, frozen foods, groceries and pharmacy. It will also include a fuel station.

The new store is approximately 41,000 square feet and will offer pickup for the nearly 7 million items on

Walmart.com

. The new store will employ up to 95 full- and part-time associates. 

The store's grand-opening celebration begins Wednesday, April 8 at 7:30 a.m., with a ribbon cutting ceremony. a "Big Family Welcome" celebration will be held the following Saturday beginning at 11:00 a.m. and will include fun family activities such as face painting, cupcake decorating and free food samples while supplies last. The event lasts until 3:00 p.m.

Walmart said it will also present over $3,000 in grants from Walmart to local community groups. Recipients of grants include Virginia Hunters Who Care Inc. and Roanoke Firefighters Association, among others.
