Danville woman killed, another charged after knife attack

DANVILLE (WSLS 10) - A Danville woman died, another was injured and a third charged after an apparent knife attack Thursday morning.

Danville police said two women came to Danville Regional Medical Center's Emergency Department with stab wounds.

One victim, 18-year-old Octrival Latisha Townes, of Danville, was taken to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. She underwent surgery, but did not make it through. She was pronounced around 4:30 p.m.

The other victim, a 24-year-old Danville woman, was treated for non-life threatening injuries and released.

Police discovered an altercation happened in the 200 block of West James St. before escalating to the knife attack. Officers arrested and charged 18-year-old Aisha Lili O'Kalani Saunders, of Danville, with one count of malicious wounding and one count of aggravated malicious wounding.

She was served with the warrants before Townes died. Saunders was held in the Danville City Jail under no bond. Police are still investigating.
