ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - You can get rid of your unwanted electronics for free and help the environment.

WSLS 10, Grand Home Furnishings and Q99 are partnering to host the first ever Grand eRecycling Drive.

The drive is Saturday, January 16 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Grand Home Furnishings on Valley View Boulevard in Roanoke. You can bring old cellphones, laptops, computers, and other electronics to the event. Volunteers will come take them out of your car.

Randy Frazier from River Acceptance LLC says the point of the drive is to keep these materials out of landfills because they are made from heavy metals that can hurt the environment.

"It's a 12 to 15 million pound per year problem. Tomorrow it's just one day. We certainly aren't going to collect 12 million pounds of electronic scrap but we're going to make a dent in it," said Frazier.
