ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - Construction has started on a new kayak ramp along the Roanoke River near Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
The public ramp will make it easier for kayakers, anglers, and tubers to get in and out of the water.

Right now, crews are working to clear the area above the water. Construction in the water is on hold until July because fish in the river are spawning.
Outside Roanoke, the organization that's funding the $77,000 deal, said the project is expected to be complete by August 1st.
