CHESTERFIELD, Va. (WRIC) – A Chesterfield man paralyzed 20 years ago while playing in a Meadowbrook High School football game is now standing tall once again with the help of a new standing wheelchair.
It's a breakthrough Clay Ransom has been hoping for since October 2015.

His old motorized chair was aging, too small and in need of a replacement, specifically a chair that would be a better fit for his 6-foot-4 frame offering weight shifts with ease, smoothly changing position and helping Ransom's overall health.
After hearing and sharing his story, friends, coworkers, even complete strangers donated, raising more than $16,000 for the life-changing chair.
"It's amazing," Ransom said. "So many people have reached out and have wanted to help and I'm so grateful."
The new set of wheels marks the start of a new chapter for Ransom. He said he is already enjoying his increased mobility, reach and overall independence.
