Danville police make arrest in Monday armed robbery

DANVILLE (WSLS 10) - Danville police arrested the man they say is responsible for an armed robbery early Monday morning.

Police charged Nicholas Wade Spence Sr., 33, of Pittsylvania County, with one count of robbery.

At about 2:40 a.m. Monday, police responded to the Fas-Mart at 1794 South Main Street. The clerk reported that a man dressed in a Virginia Tech sweatshirt entered the store and demanded the money.  The suspect told the clerk that he had a weapon, but no weapon was seen by the clerk.  Police say he took some cash.

Spencer was arrested by Pittsylvania County Sheriff's deputies on a Danville warrant without incident.

He is being held in the Danville City Jail under no bond pending a court hearing.
