New River Valley residents rally in support of the Affordable Care Act

ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - Those against the repeal of the Affordable Care Act in the New River Valley area took a stand on Thursday.

The group Virginia Organizing gathered in downtown Christiansburg for a peaceful demonstration.

Some shared stories about how the ACA is beneficial to their lives. The group also signed a statement and sent to Representative Morgan Griffith asking him to protect the law and expand health care coverage to everyone.

"We said, 'Hey look Morgan, you can't take away this much of an impact for me and the community and local hospital getting paid for patients who come in uninsured in the ER or just turn them away.' We're saving money in the long run and we're saving lives," said Nathan Auldridge a Salem resident.

Virginia Organizing also wants congress to improve existing plans to cover all health conditions.
