ROANOKE COUNTY –
Roanoke County Fire & Rescue crews say they were dispatched twice to McAfee Knob for two separate rescues on Tuesday.Â

The first was a man who hurt his knee while hiking. Crews found him and carried him off the trail.
The second rescue was a hiker who became lost on the trail and called for help.
Once crews located where he was, they escorted him back to the parking area.
Roanoke County Fire & Rescue says ay hikers should always follow these safety tips:

Pick a trail that meets your fitness ability

Plan/prepare for your hike, take a map of trail

Take a buddy

Tell someone where you are going

Bring a fully charged cell phone

Stay on marked trails

Dress in layers, avoid cotton, have rain gear

Carry plenty of water and snacks

Never climb on waterfalls
-
Carry a whistle (three short blasts=sign of distress)
