Danville Fire Department kicks off annual 'Fill The Boot' campaign

Money helps send local kids with muscular dystrophy to special summer camp

DANVILLE – Local firefighters are helping children with muscular dystrophy.

Friday, the Danville Fire Department kicked off its annual "Fill The Boot" campaign, where people put money in a firefighter boot.

Firefighters were out at the Danville Sam's Club.

The money raised will be given to the Muscular Dystrophy Association to help send local kids with Muscular Dystrophy to a special summer camp.

While the official goal for 2017, like 2016, is $7,500, in 2016 $10,000 was donated so firefighters hope to beat that in 2017.

"It's been a pretty good day. Little cool, little wet. But, we've had great support so far," said Danville Fire Department Capt. Jeff Guill.

Firefighters will be collecting donations again on May 19 and 26 and Dunhams Sports in Danville also has boots at the registers.
