Roanoke police chief going 'over the edge'

Chief Jones to rappel down Patrick Henry building Friday

ROANOKE, Va. – It's National Police Week.

To raise awareness for a Roanoke Police Department program that's making a difference, Roanoke Police Chief Tim Jones is going over the edge.

Jones will rappel 132 feet of the Patrick Henry Building on Friday.

He's doing so to bring attention to Big Brothers Big Sisters' Bigs in Blue program.

As you may remember, a Roanoke city officer and his little brother received national attention from "Today" earlier this year as Big Brothers Big Sisters Southwest Virginia has served as the model across the nation.

“I'm here to serve. As chief of police if I can help serve in this way and spread the word about this great program then why not,” Jones explained.

The non-profit received a $50,000 matching grant to grow Bigs in Blue beyond just the Roanoke Police Department.

If you would like to give, visit any Roanoke-area Bojangles', Pita Pit, or the Crystal Springs or Grandin 7-Eleven.
