UnitedHealthcare, CHIP of Roanoke Valley host job event

United For Work helped new mothers, guardians entering the workforce.

ROANOKE, Va. – UnitedHealthcare and Child Health Investment Partnership of Roanoke Valley teamed up Wednesday for a job event for those in need.

The United For Work event was designed to help new mothers and guardians who are unemployed and re-entering the workforce. The event included sessions on interview tips, budgeting and finances, handling stress and healthy eating.

This is the first year for the event, but organizers are hoping it will last far into the future.

"Our goal right now is to be able to connect all the different resources available to the community so they can get gainful employment," said Briana Penny, regional director for UnitedHealthcare.

"Ultimately the belief that anything they want to accomplish they can accomplish. And to feel like they are more skilled now and have the resources available to know what to do to access care," said Robin Haldiman, CEO of CHIP of Roanoke Valley.

Sixteen women attended the United For Work job event.
