51-year-old charged with first-degree murder in connection to Martinsville homicide

This comes after a 31-year-old man was shot and killed Sunday night

MARTINSVILLE, Va. – A 51-year-old was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection to a homicide that happened in Martinsville this week, according to the Martinsville Police Department.

On Sunday at 8:30 p.m., dispatchers received a call about two people fighting and shots fired at Maplewood Apartments on West Fayette Street.

When authorities arrived at the scene, they found 31-year-old Charles Brandon Coleman, who had been shot multiple times, unresponsive and laying behind one of the apartment buildings.

Authorities report that Coleman was pronounced dead at the scene.

On Thursday, police announced that 51-year-old Andre Douglas King of Martinsville was arrested for the following:

  • First-degree murder
  • Use of a firearm in the commission of a felony
  • Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
  • Probation violation

We were told that King is currently being held at the Martinsville City Jail without bond.

While an arrest has been made, the case is still under investigation as police investigators continue to interview more witnesses.
