Two pedestrians killed in vehicle crash in Franklin County

Virginia State Police said charges are pending

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Va. – UPDATE

Virginia State Police is releasing more information about a crash that left two people dead in Franklin County.

We now know that on Monday at about 7:50 p.m., two pedestrians were fatally struck by a vehicle that was traveling south on Route 220.

Authorities said that the 2001 Ford F-150 ran off the left side of the roadway into the median before hitting the two victims.

Virginia State Police has identified the pedestrians as 40-year-old Matthew Paul Sink and 43-year-old Melinda Lynn Headrick, both from Roanoke. Both Sink and Headrick were pronounced dead at the scene.

We’re told charges are pending at this time.

Two people were killed in a crash in Franklin County, according to Virginia State Police.

Authorities said it happened at about 7:40 p.m. on southbound Route 220 near Auction House.

We’re told the road was closed with a detour in place as the Crash Reconstruction Team responded to the incident, but it has since reopened to traffic.
