Flu cases are already starting to impact local school districts. Although the ideal time to get a flu vaccine has passed, a Carilion Clinic pediatrician is urging everyone to get the flu vaccine as soon as possible.

Carilion Children’s launched a new pediatric clinic in Rocky Mount, opening its doors to patients today, marking a significant expansion of healthcare services for families in Franklin County.

Carilion Clinic has opened a new pediatric medicine office in Rocky Mount, expanding access to both general and specialty care for children in the area.

Carilion Children’s is reaching out to the community for help in replenishing their toy supply for children in the hospital. Donations are being accepted at Carilion Children’s Tanglewood Center now through March 31.

Fighting hospital blues, that’s the goal of a nearly $8,000 grant from the Toy Foundation that was presented to Carilion Children’s.

Today is National Teddy Bear Day and to celebrate the Martinsville Speedway donated 40 teddy bears to Carilion Children’s.

On Thursday, Carilion Children’s received a 2 million dollar check from the Life Ring Foundation for their new cancer center.

A new addition at Mill Mountain Zoo is open for kids to enjoy.

The goal of the program is to reduce stress and provide an outlet for patients during medical treatment.

ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. – Carilion Clinic said it expects its massive project at Tanglewood Mall to be complete by August and to be open to patients by October. Dr. Donald Kees is the interim chair of pediatrics for Carilion and said things are shaping up. “It’s all framed in and they’re putting the drywall on, the plumbing and the electric,” Dr. Kees said. It’s also a dream for an economic development director such as the one in Roanoke County. Roanoke County is set to host a virtual forum on Tanglewood Mall on Thursday at noon.

ROANOKE, Va. – The holidays are going to look a lot different this year, especially for children in the hospital. Carilion Children’s usually relies on corporate sponsors to provide holiday gifts but because most people are working virtually, employee toy drives are less likely this year. Junior League of Roanoke Valley (JLRV) is partnering with Carilion for a toy drive, asking the community to step up and help make the holidays brighter for these children. “It is an unprecedented year and a difficult time for many across the Roanoke Valley. Community members must wear masks when dropping off toys, and they will be asked to place them in the bins themselves.

ROANOKE, Va. – Local health experts are warning parents about the dangers of things like backyard kiddie pools, splash pads and sprinklers. Jill Lucas Drakeford, the Safe Kids coordinator with Carilion Children’s, said you should never leave a child unattended in or near water and always watch them. When they’re done playing, remove water and toys from the pool so they don’t go back to the pool without you knowing. Well we really have to be vigilant with these backyard pools.
