‘All together, we will’: Rivalry teams come together after game, show unity ahead of school system merger
While some may still be skeptical about the merger, it was clear to see the unity between the two rival teams after their final volleyball faceoff on Thursday night, according to a release by the Alleghany Highlands Public Schools.

Emotional night as Covington leaders prepare to vote on merging city’s schools with Alleghany County Schools
COVINGTON, Va. – It was another historic night in the Alleghany Highlands on Thursday as Covington city leaders prepared to vote on whether or not to consolidate the city’s schools with those in Alleghany County. The Covington City Council and School Board met in the Covington High School auditorium, which likely would have been full if not for social distancing. Alleghany County leaders voted on Wednesday night in favor of consolidating the two school systems. After Wednesday’s vote, the final approvals have to come from the city of Covington and the state of Virginia. We will update this story when we learn the result of Thursday night’s vote in Covington.

Covington Schools to close next two days due to 'widespread’ sickness
COVINGTON, Va. – Another local school system is closing for several days due to a number of sick students and staff. Covington City Public Schools will be closed on Thursday and Friday, due to “widespread” sickness, according to school officials. Custodial staff will use the two days to deep clean and disinfect the school buildings, similar to what custodial staff recently did in Bath County schools.
