ORIGINAL STORYA standoff between a wanted man and Roanoke police led to a heavy police presence in the area of Hollins Road NE on Thursday night. It started at around 8:45 p.m. when police tried to take a wanted man into custody, according to the Roanoke City Police Department. The suspect led police on a short chase, which police said ended near Hollins Road NE and Mason Mill Road NE after police used spikes to disable the tires on his vehicle. There weren’t any residents nearby during the standoff, according to police. The heavy police presence near Hollins Road prompted several roadblocks and forced residents to take detours.

ROANOKE, Va. - Crews extinguished a fire in Roanoke City near Pocahontas Avenue and Hollins Road. Around 2:45 p.m., Roanoke Fire-EMS responded to a report of a grass fire, and the first units to arrive found a freight trailer on fire. ROANOKE, Va. - Crews battled a fire that broke out in a train car carrying trash in Roanoke. The fire broke out Friday afternoon inside the Tinker Creek Transfer Station in Roanoke on Hollins Road near 460. Employees dragged the trash car outside and started working to extinguish the fire on their own until the fire department arrived. ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. - An inmate who walked away from a Roanoke County Sheriffs Department work detail this morning has since been recaptured. A spokesman for Roanoke County police said that David Adam McFall, 34, walked off at about 11:30 a.m. in the Hollins Road area near the county garage. He was recaptured today shortly before 2 p.m. just inside Roanoke city limits in the Pennsylvania Avenue area by a Roanoke City K-9 officer without incident. ORIGINAL STORYAuthorities are searching for an inmate they say walked off a work detail in Roanoke County, according to assistant police chief Chuck Mason. The inmate was reportedly working with a crew near the Roanoke County garage in the Hollins Road area when he walked off.
