Japanese pro Lego builder creates 50,000-piece replica of Hokusai's 'The Great Wave'
Fans of Katsushika Hokusai’s “The Great Wave off Kanagawa” can now find a unique Lego replica of the famous woodblock print in Japan. Japanese professional Lego builder Jumpei Mitsui created the replica for the Hankyu Brick Museum in Osaka. The 3D reproduction, which is 154 centimeters (approximately 60.6 inches) long and 128 centimeters (approximately 50.4 inches) inches tall, reportedly took over 400 hours to complete using around 50,000 Lego pieces.

Lego to ditch plastic bags for paper ones in its boxed sets
NEW YORK – Lego said Tuesday that it will stop using plastic bags inside its boxed sets and replace them with paper ones. The Danish toymaker said it will start making the switch next year and expects plastic bags to be completely phased out in the next five years. The bags are used to hold loose bricks in boxed sets. About 2% of its pieces, such as Lego trees and bushes, are made of sugar cane,Lego said kids wrote the company asking it to drop the plastic bags. The paper bags, which are recyclable, are easier for kids to open, the company said.

Lego products are moulded from oil-based plastic, which is a problem for the climate. But now, the company is committing itself to reduce emissions and become greener. The company announced it will invest more than $150 million to develop future climate-friendly packaging and bricks made out of plants. Still, 2% of Lego bricks are made of sugar, while the other 98% are still oil-based granules.

Yet in going private, Merlin Entertainments is returning to its roots.
