Wythe County announced on Friday that they have completed their Reed Creek Blueway project, which has taken multiple years and $100,000 in grant funding from the Virginia Outdoors Foundation’s Preservation Trust Fund program.

A Max Meadows man was sentenced Thursday to 23 years and 3 months to serve for his role in the murder of a man in June 2022.

A 42-year-old woman is dead after a motorcycle crash in Henry County, according to Virginia State Police.

WYTHE COUNTY, Va. A 70-year-old man is dead after a fatal crash in Wythe County, according to Virginia State Police. Authorities say the crash happened on Monday around 3 p.m. on Ivanhoe Road, just west of Felts Lane when Bruce Spraker, 70, of Max Meadows was driving a 2001 Ford Ranger. According to police, he ran off the road, hit an embankment and overturned. Spraker died at the scene, according to state police. The crash remains under investigation.

Dan Lovelace, with the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries, said that, lately, black bears are becoming more common in residential areas. There have been at least three bear sightings in the last few days. The department said bears mainly show up in residential areas in search of their natural food. To keep bears out of your neighborhood, remove trash and bird feeders, pick up pet food and clean the grill often. Don't try to approach it, don't try to feed it and just keep bears wild by giving them their space," said Lovelace.
