Lynchburg police shoot, kill dog as wellness check turns into standoff situation
LYNCHBURG, Va. โ What started as a wellness check on Thursday night ended with a dog being killed after Lynchburg police tried to take a man into custody. Despite that, he still would not allow officers to take him into custody, according to the Lynchburg Police Department. AdThe bullet hit a dog sitting on top of the man, killing the dog, according to the Lynchburg Police Department. During the ongoing investigation into the shooting, the Lynchburg Police Department will not release any body-cam footage from its officers. As is departmental procedure, Lynchburg police will release the involved officerโs name within seven days, pending the results of a threat assessment.
Three police officers shot in North Carolina standoff
Three officers were shot overnight in North Carolina after responding to a barricade situation at a home in High Point, according to WXII. Authorities said officers heard gunshots around 11:15 p.m. Thursday in the 2900 block of West English Road. When officers arrived, they said they found a man with a rifle on the front porch who then went back inside when he saw officers. Three officers were shot and all suffered non-life-threatening injuries and one officer will likely have to undergo surgery, according to WXII. Local law enforcement agencies taking precautions for possible Election Day unrest
CAMPBELL COUNTY, Va. โ Campbell County Sheriff Whit Clark said officers will spend Election Day taking extra precautions. Weโre not going to be stationed at the polling sites. โAs of right now this [Monday] afternoon, we have no information about any unrest thatโs going to occur in Campbell County,โ said Clark. Gene Smith, Campbell Countyโs electoral board chairman, said theyโre working closely with the Sheriffโs Office to make sure things run smoothly at their 17 polling sites. โUsually in Campbell County it goes smooth, so Iโm not really looking into anything.

Two Buffalo officers charged with assault over police shoving 75-year-old man to ground
NBC NEWS Two Buffalo officers, who were suspended without pay after a video showed police shoving a 75-year-old man to the ground at a George Floyd protest on Thursday night, were charged Saturday with second-degree assault. A large crowd of police officers and firefighters stood in front of Buffalo City Court to show support for the two officers as they attended a virtual arraignment on Saturday. Officers Robert McCabe, 32, and Aaron Torgalski, 39, pleaded not guilty to the charges of second-degree assault, a felony, and will be released on their own recognizance, according to NBC affiliate WGRZ in Buffalo. The incident occurred shortly after the city's 8 p.m. curfew, NBC affiliate WGRZ in Buffalo reported. Erie County District Attorney John Flynn said in a press conference after the arraignment that McCabe and Torgalski "clearly crossed the line."
