Liberty will represent the ASUN in the 2021 NCAA TournamentROANOKE, Va. – During Sunday’s NCAA Selection Show, it was announced that Liberty would be a 13 seed in the NCAA Tournament. This will mark the Flames’ 5th NCAA Tournament appearance and the second under head coach Ritchie McKay. In 2019, Liberty defeated Mississippi State in the first round before falling to Virginia Tech in the second round, 67-58. The Flames will enter the NCAA Tournament with a 23-5 overall record and an active 12-game win streak. Darius McGhee was named the ASUN Player of the Year, ASUN Tournament MVP and also earned ASUN All-Tournament Team honors along with Chris Parker and Kyle Rode.

LYNCHBURG, Va. – For the first time in the Liberty-North Florida series, a team has won back-to-back games as the Flames complete the sweep over North Florida, defeating the Ospreys 80-60. The Flames improve to 17-5 and 8-2 in the ASUN Conference while North Florida drops to 7-13 and 5-5 in conference. As Liberty held North Florida on a near four-minute scoring draught, Liberty extended its lead to 18 points (60-42) with 11:52 left in the game. Liberty countered with an 8-0 run to keeping its double-digit lead as North Florida went on a three-minute scoring draught to seal the win. Liberty shot 54 percent while limiting North Florida to 41 percent.

DeLAND, Fla – Liberty bounced back to end in its weekend series at Stetson with an impressive defensive performance and a 68-58 win over the Hatters. Liberty improves to 12-5 this season and 4-2 in the ASUN Conference while Stetson falls to 4-6 and 2-2 in conference. Despite limiting Stetson to shooting 29 percent from the field, the Hatters were able to grab 11 offensive rebounds, giving Stetson four second chance points. Parker led Liberty with four assists. Liberty University Head Men’s Basketball Coach Ritchie McKay has tested positive for the COVID-19 virus and will miss this week’s games at Lipscomb. He received the positive test result earlier this week and has experienced some mild symptoms. Since learning of the positive test result, Coach McKay has self-isolated himself and he continues to follow all guidelines set forth by the Liberty University medical staff and local health officials. LYNCHBURG, Va. – It proved to be a solid non-conference start for the 8-3 Liberty Flames. But the most important part of the season begins in just a few weeks, where they will have time to prepare for ASUN Conference play to begin on Friday. “I think what has been a blessing in disguise is the depth that we have has allowed us to not play our starters, or our heavy minute guys as much. “That variable may change when league play starts, because the games are significant, you’re positioning for seeding and winning a championship. The last team Liberty saw in 2020 was Lipscomb in the ASUN championship, and that is who they will open up with on Friday Jan. 1 with a 3 p.m. tipoff in Nashville.
